About Us

Empowering brilliant minds to build next-generation compute.

Who We Are

A specialist fund for the quantum stack, run by scientists who have built and backed deep-tech companies.

55 North is a Copenhagen-based venture capital fund dedicated to quantum technology. We invest from pre-seed to Series B across quantum computing, sensing and timing, communications and the enabling technologies that make them work.

Our mandate is global, with a focus on Europe and the Nordics. The fund is anchored by EIFO, the Export and Investment Fund of Denmark, and Novo Holdings.

“Europe must remain a producer, not just a buyer, of quantum technologies.” — Owen Lozman, Managing Partner

Impatient Capital

Impatient capital for the quantum era.

Quantum has spent decades proving the physics. The next phase belongs to teams that design for scale and get products into customers’ hands. We are impatient on their behalf.

Design for scale from day one

We back architectures and products built to scale, reusing semiconductor infrastructure where it makes sense, rather than one-off lab systems.

Customers, not just papers

We prioritise a clear route to revenue, from supplier orders today to the systems customers will buy tomorrow.

Speed matters

We lead rounds and push hard on technical and commercial milestones with our founders, because in a race for scale, time is the scarcest resource.

Our Thesis

From working qubits to scalable systems.

The industry has shown that qubits work. The next wave is about designing for scale: architectures that build on decades of quantum know-how and on semiconductor infrastructure accelerated by AI.

Supplier revenue and cross-modality insight support selective, scale-first investment. We do not need to pick a single hardware winner to build a strong portfolio.

Dedicated Fund Advantage

Quantum is hard. Our focused, expert-led fund understands what it takes. We can uniquely identify, nurture, and scale quantum business, unlocking both short-term and long-term value.

Network Advantage

Europe is undercapitalized but is poised to lead the quantum revolution. We connect startups with global labs, corporates, and the governments shaping national strategies in quantum. A unique network generalists don’t have.

Sustainable Advantage

By bridging world-class scientific innovation with deep-tech investing expertise, we help teams turn breakthrough science into scalable products and move from lab to market faster.

How We Work
Scientists first

Our partners hold PhDs in physics and chemistry and bring decades of experience across research, engineering and deep-tech investing. We speak our founders’ language and test the technology in depth.

Hands-on lead investor

We lead and co-lead rounds and stay close to founders as they move from prototype to product, helping with strategy, hiring, partnerships and follow-on financing.

Scale-first focus

We look for architectures and suppliers that can scale with semiconductor manufacturing, and help teams hit the milestones that unlock their next round.

Part of the ecosystem

We partner with the Danish Quantum Community, are members of Aktive Ejere and work with universities, corporates, governments and fellow investors to grow the quantum industry.
